How to choose fabric for a suit

Categories

Currently, suit fabric is actively used in sewing trousers, jackets, jackets and skirts, which are an integral attribute of corporate and office style. The modern assortment is represented by a wide range of colors, a variety of patterns and options for density and composition. This allows manufacturers to produce clothes for any season and any request - from individual preferences to corporate uniforms for an organization with a dress code
Characteristics of suit fabric

The following requirements apply to materials for sewing suits:

Form stability. In addition to the main material, to maintain the presentable appearance of the suit, adhesive cushioning materials, lining fabrics, shoulder pads and saddle pads, etc. are used. The wrinkle resistance of clothes largely depends on the style itself.
Wear resistance and strength. Thanks to these properties and high-quality care, clothes can last for more than one season. Suit fabrics must be able to withstand mechanical and atmospheric influences well.
Thermal conductivity and hygroscopicity. In cold weather, business clothing should keep the body warm; in sultry heat, it should allow air to pass through and allow the skin to breathe.
Pill resistance. During use, the fabric should not roll up. The areas most susceptible to pilling are around pockets, buttons and under sleeves.
Color fastness. To preserve its original appearance, it is necessary to use fabrics that are not afraid of frequent washing and dry cleaning.

Assortment of suit fabrics

Men's and women's suits are made from natural, synthetic and mixed fabrics. The performance properties of the fabric largely depend on the composition of the material and the proportional ratio of the fibers.
Natural costume fabrics

It can be wool, cotton, linen, silk. Fabrics consist of fibers with numerous cavities between the threads. This gives the finished products high breathability, heat retention and hygroscopic properties. But in their pure form, wool, linen and cotton fabrics are rarely used, since they wrinkle heavily, are not elastic enough and are not resistant to wear.

To improve performance properties, natural fibers are mixed with fibers of artificial or synthetic origin.

Most often, polyester is added to the natural material, the volume of which can reach 60%. Combining with viscose or nylon fiber gives the fabric a pleasant silky shine.

A small content of lycra increases the elasticity, firmness and dimensional stability of natural fabric. This combination helps solve the problem of trousers stretching at the knees and jackets stretching at the elbows.
Wool blends

Boston. The material is a twill weave that stands out with small ridges at a 45 degree angle. The fabric is warm and wear-resistant, but over time it loses its shape.
Tweed. Dense wool blend material with a herringbone pattern and a light nap texture on the front side. Clothing retains heat well in the winter season, is durable and wear-resistant.
Cheviot. Woolen material contains cotton or rayon fibers. It has a fleecy surface and is available in melange and plain-dyed forms. Due to its low cost, the fabric has found a niche in the production of school suits and uniforms for employees of manufacturing enterprises, medical workers, etc.
Gabardine. Fabric based on Merino sheep wool, produced in a complex twill weave. It is distinguished by a small scar, inclined at an angle of 60-70 degrees. Gabardine is made from pure wool or its mixture with viscose or cotton. The material is suitable for any season, perfectly resists moisture and does not require special care. Thanks to its high density, it can withstand frequent washing.

Combined cotton fabrics

Velvet is a dense and soft material with a fleecy texture. Used for sewing women's and men's going out suits. A popular variety of this family is stretch velvet - a fabric with the addition of lycra, which gives the clothes elasticity and a comfortable fit on the body.
Corduroy is a type of velvet that is distinguished by longitudinal ribs. It differs from classic velvet in its increased stretchability, wear resistance and resistance to stains. Particularly noteworthy are corduroy cord with thick stripes for jackets and jackets, as well as corduroy ribbed, common in the production of demi-season suits and trousers.
Denim fabrics are a separate class of cotton fabrics using various additives, which are selected based on style, season and target audience.

Linen suiting fabrics

This segment is presented in a limited assortment. Most often, linen group materials are produced with matting weave or simple and finely patterned weave. To improve characteristics, linen fabrics are often produced with admixtures of synthetic or artificial fibers of natural origin. The use of additives is usually directed designed to achieve dimensional stability and anti-pilling effect.
